Summer Reading Assignment – All Grades

 

This summer, students will read the following book & complete a one-pager with the below specifications.

  • Incoming 6th Grade – A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park
  • Incoming 7th Grade – Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
  • Incoming 8th Grade – I Will Always Write Back by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda

A one-pager is an analytical, creative, & written response to a novel that completely fills one side of a piece of paper (at least 8 ½ x 11 & no bigger than 11 x 17). For your one-pager, focus on the big ideas from the novel. 

Required Details

  1. Fill the entire page with color and text. There should not be any blank, white space.

  1. Clearly label each element of your one-pager.
  2. Include the title, author, and genre on the paper. You should try to incorporate these elements as creatively as possible.
  3. The required elements are:
  4. Figurative Language: Provide one example of one of the following types of figurative language: simile, metaphor, hyperbole, or personification.
  5. Memorable Quotes: Include two cited quotes that are meaningful or just stand out to you.
  6. Images: Draw one large central image or multiple smaller images that represent the book (tip: may be themes, symbols, characters, or conflicts within the book).
  7. Setting: Illustrate a setting from the book. The illustration must be accurate, detailed, and in full color. Provide a quote from the book to support the illustration of the setting.
